The most important person you may have to learn to forgive is YOURSELF!

I believe this is one of the hardest keys to unlocking healing of the self. It sits right alongside a new understanding in psychology of the importance of self compassion.

We seem to find it easier in our hearts to forgive those who have done us wrong. Those who lied, those who hurt us whether intentionally or not. There are some things that forgiveness can do for the human mind and soul that no other “thing” can do.

Dr. Wayne Dyer constantly spoke about how his whole life turned around when he finally forgave his father for abandoning the family when he was a baby. It was at his father’s grave 10 years after his father had passed and of which he wasn’t even aware until a a distant cousin told him.

But, once again, I believe that even Wayne had to learn to forgive himself and to as he put it “just be a better person than I was yesterday”.

The finger in the image has a double meaning. It’s the finger that points to you being a failure, lazy, no good, whatever you like because that’s we do to ourselves. Blaming and shaming ourselves.

The second meaning is what I’ve said – use that blaming finger to rather be a sign and a reminder that the most important person you may need to forgive is YOURSELF!

Remember you are only human. If you have done wrong and you can make it right or apologise then go ahead and do it but in the end it will be you who needs to let it go and move on and allow your self-esteem to rise again.
