As we near the end of 2018 a lot of people are feeling tired and fatigued. I certainly count myself in that group given what’s been accomplished this year but also the highs and lows as well as the incredible difficulty I’ve had with an ongoing fatigue issue.
This poem “Don’t Quit” – by Edgar A. Guest is one of my absolute favourite poems of inspiration. It never fails to help me breathe a sigh and determine to carry on. I have included the full poem for you below.
It’s also a wonderful reminder that all of us go through times when we are tired. When we have put in the effort and determination, the drive and the pure grit to keep going even when we don’t feel it’s working out. But as the poem reminds us, life can be queer with its twists and turns – as every one of us sometimes learns – and that we should certainly take time to stop and rest and recover but know that we can always try again tomorrow…or next week… or next year!
So my friends…enjoy your break over the festive season. Take time to review all you have achieved in 2018 and be proud of everything you have done.
You have way more power and strength and ability than you give yourself credit for. Never forget that!
DON’T QUIT – by Edgar A. Guest
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don’t give up, though the pace seems slow –
You may succeed with another blow.
Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man;
Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victor’s cup,
And he learned too late, when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out –
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are –
It may be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit –
It’s when things seem worst that you mustn’t quit.
Wishing you all a restful, safe and happy end of 2018 and all the very best for 2019!
